A great tattoo isn't just drawn — it's designed, placed with care, and made to last a lifetime.

That's the standard at Art 4 Life.

Meet the founder

Tony Tromp.

Founder, Owner & Lead Artist · @tonys_tattoo

Anthony “Tony” Tromp is one of Aruba's pioneering tattoo artists and among the island's most respected names. His journey began at just 14 years old, experimenting with cactus needles on friends — more than four decades later, he's still behind the machine every day. In 2001 he made history by opening Aruba's first official tattoo studio, helping lay the foundation for the island's modern tattoo industry.

Known for his versatility, Tony works in every style — bold traditional pieces, detailed portraits, vibrant colour work and timeless classics — and he's especially passionate about reworking and restoring older tattoos, giving new life to existing pieces while preserving their meaning. Guests describe him the same way again and again: gentle, patient and respectful. As more than one has put it, he's “better than the nurses back home” when it comes to keeping things clean.

Aftercare

Heal it like a pro.

Tattoo aftercare
  • 01Leave the first wrap on for 24 hours (or as long as your artist advises), then wash gently with clean hands and mild, unscented soap.
  • 02If you were given a second skin (Saniderm), apply it after washing and leave it on for up to 3 days — don't remove it early. A little ink or plasma pooling under it is normal.
  • 03After that: wash twice a day with lukewarm water, pat dry with a clean paper towel — never rub, no washcloths or loofahs.
  • 04Moisturize with a thin layer of fragrance-free lotion twice a day. Only what your skin needs — too much clogs pores and slows healing.
  • 05While it heals (2–4 weeks): no pools, sea, baths or heavy sweating, keep it out of direct sun, and wear loose clothing over it.
  • 06Don't pick or scratch — let it flake naturally. Once healed, always use sunscreen to keep it sharp.
Piercing aftercare
  • 01Leave your jewelry in — don't remove, twist, spin or rotate it while healing, and don't change or tighten it yourself. Your piercer will check it if needed.
  • 02Always wash your hands before touching or cleaning your piercing.
  • 03Spray sterile saline on it 1–2 times a day, let it soak briefly, then gently pat dry with clean gauze or a paper towel — no reusable cloths.
  • 04Otherwise leave it alone — no alcohol, peroxide, iodine, harsh soaps, tea tree oil, ointments or homemade salt soaks, and don't over-clean.
  • 05Until it's healed: no pools, sea or hot tubs, keep makeup, lotions and perfumes away from it, don't sleep on healing ear piercings, and watch for snagging on clothes and hair.
  • 06Normal while healing: mild bleeding the first day or two, swelling, tenderness, itching, and clear or whitish discharge that dries into small crusties.
  • 07Healing times vary — earlobes around 2–4 months, nostril 4–6, septum 6–8, cartilage and navel 6–12, nipple 9–12. It can look healed outside long before it is inside, so keep up the care until it's fully healed.
  • 08Come back to have your jewelry downsized when we advise it — it's part of the healing. And piercings can shrink or close surprisingly fast even after they've healed, so if you love it, keep jewelry in.
  • 09Excessive swelling, increasing redness, severe pain, foul odor, jewelry embedding, fever or green discharge? Contact us right away or see a doctor.
